According to the Wohlers report, the market for 3D printing or additive manufacturing grew 29.4% (CAGR) to $1.7 billion last year, following a 24.1% growth in 2010.

Sales of professional-grade systems increased by 5% while
the personal 3D printer unit sales jumped by 289%. About 40% of all 3D printing
systems installed worldwide are in the US, followed by Europe with 29% and Asia
with 26%.
Mary Hope McQuiston will provide insight behind the growth of personal 3D printers and software. Her company, Autodesk, launched 123D Catch, a free app on iPad, earlier this year. The software helps assemble 2D photos of an object to create a 3D model. Tim Caffrey who has an engineering and advertising background will discuss the current trends for the industrial systems. Chris Anderson will share insight from his new book, Makers: The New Industrial Revolution and about the potential economic and social impact of 3D printing. Some have predicted that someday we can "print" our own houses and change the design every few years. Others have suggested that it will ignite another industrial revolution and resurgence of American manufacturing. In the interview, Nancy will get the experts' views on these predictions and examine the promise and risks that 3D printing may pose for the future.
